Does Anyone Know How Long It Takes To Drive From Palmdale, Ca To Downtown Los Angeles, Ca?!?!?

9 Comments 15 December 2009

I am thinking of moving to Palmdale and I wanted to know if anyone could tell me how long it takes them to drive to Los Angeles in traffic on average. I have to be to school around 12pm, so I was trying to figure out how early I would have to leave the house. The metrolink takes about 2hrs there and 2hrs back & costs about $10 each way!!!!
Thank You for any information you can provide :-)

Palmdale is 63 miles away, and if there were no traffic, it would be about an hour. However, you have a number of bottlenecks along the 14, 5, and 101 freeways, increasing your drive to 2-3 hours during morning drive. However, if you leave at 10, you might miss most of the traffic coming into town.
However, consider this: 63 miles divided by 20 mpg (for a car with good fuel economy) equals about 3+ gallons of gas each way. With gas being about $3.33 or more per gallon, that’s over $10 in gas ALONE each way. Add oil changes, wear and tear, and that $10 metrolink ride is looking pretty good.
BTW, which school? I’m not familiar with many colleges in the downtown area.
    Happy driving!

That is a hell of a nasty commute.
Even at 10 bucks a pop, you’re better off on the metrolink. Especially with gas hovering at $4.00 a gallon. Unless you’re driving a hybrid.
See if they offer a student rate.

Its about 62 miles from Palmdale to downtown Los Angeles. With normal traffic flow it should take about an hour and a half. But you should allow 2 hrs. for traffic

It takes about 1.5hr to 2hr without traffic. However, that is nowhere near the realistic case. Usually, there is traffic. I suggest you drive down there and back and see for yourself.
In gasoline alone, you’d spend more than $10 each way using your average vehicle. It’s simply not worth the price, and you’ll be tired of it pretty much after two or three days.
The Metrolink is a very good deal in this case, and you should take it instead. Other than that – don’t move to Palmdale if you need to commute to Los Angeles.

That is cheaper than driving. Driving takes that long depending on what time of the day.

In Traffic it takes about 2 to 2 1/2 hrs sometimes. With you having school at 12 you might miss some of it though. I have done it with no traffic and it takes like an hour and fifteen minutes. Watch for CHP through there too.

At 12pm, it’s only going to take you an hour and a half if that. The metrolink is a nice way to go though and if you are going on a regular basis they have monthly passes to make it more affordable and many schools and corporations have discounts through them.

If I were you, I would pay for the metrolink and use the time to study or sleep. Traffic is bad can take up to three plus hours. The money you pay the metro will save you sanity and your patience. Good luck. FIDM? Yes.
