I am really concerned with the crime in palmdale and I am thinking of commuting. I have heard bad things about HW 14 as far as the steepness in the drive, etc. Please give me some honest suggestions. I am from TX so I am clueless on the landscape there.

Thousands make this commute everyday and the route is not steep at all..
I also dont think the crime in Palmdale is a issue.
HW14 is not steep? it’s the traffic you have to worry about. A lot of people from L.A. moved out to Palmdale to get their kids out of trouble and because it was cheaper. But some just brought their problems with them, and most commute to L.A. on a daily basis. I was at my brothers in Canyon Country for a week, and then drove out to Palmdale……well, it’s like day and night.
There’s crime everywhere, and if you compare Canyon Country to Palmdale, yes! you have more in Palmdale. But that doesn’t mean that you’re going to get mugged just walking down the street.
the commute is just like any normal freeway out here in California the crime in palmdale is really bad the sheriff department calls it Compton north . if you dont like the commute then think about moving to Santa Clarita i lived in palmdale I’m telling you Santa Clarita is a lot better schools everything.

I have lived in both the east and west sides of Palmdale and I’m still alive and well:-) Granted the westide is much nicer and the homes cost a little more, but it’s worth it. If you can afford to live in Santa Clarita, go for it. You will get a small condo in Sant Clarita for the same price as a house in Palmdale. Even in the westside. I vanpool to work in Santa Clarita with 5 other people, it’s great!
