I’m currently researching this myself as I’m pregnant with our first child and here is what I’ve found:
Go to http://www.wahm.com (wahm=work at home mom).
Go here before you try any of these other suggestions. This is just a forum for work at home moms to swap stories and expierences they had at different wah companies. I’ve found a couple different places that I can apply.
The great thing is you get to hear the good, bad and the ugly before you go into it.
Good Luck!!!
If you have the space try babysitting. I searched very hard to try to find someone like you to babysit my daughter while i worked so that i wouldnt have to put her in daycare with so many other kids. If you take on a just a few kids you don’t have to have a license and it’s even better if your friends used you instead of a daycare. If you live in a community you can also just do after school kids. They can come to your house for a couple hours until their parents get off work.
A lot of major companies have part time jobs where you can work from home. I know many financial companies have employees that work after hours processing various paperwork etc..You may work in the middle of the night, but you will not only be making decent money but have your foot in the door of a company for when you decide you may want to return to work.
Many of those stay at home jobs you see advertised are scams. What I once read is to look at tele-commuting jobs on sites such as Monster or Hotjobs. Tele-commuting oftern returns you results of real companies where as if you search for stay at home jobs you get results of make a thousand dollars in a day in the comfort of your own home.
Another option is to begin selling things on eBay. A lot of Stay at Home Moms spend time at the mall with their children. Look for final markdown items that are a couple of dollars, and turn it around and sell it on eBay. I will be honest with you, you are going to have to sell a lot of things to make pocket money, but atleast it is something fun to do. You will pay a small fee for posting an auction on eBay, but can recoup that in your starting auction price. If you really would like to start eBay, there is a book called Starting an eBay business for Dummies. It will explain to you the best kind of items to buy, appealing auction templates etc.. Basically everything from soup to nuts.
My last idea for you is if you are willing to give up a few nights per week, get a part time job at the mall. A lot of moms work for clothing stores. If your kids are of school age, even better for you work while they are in school and be home for them in the afternoon. It is the best of both world, you make some money and you also get out of the house a little bit. The discount is not such a bad thing either!
I hope this gives you some ideas.
