Maybe you could just take the train straight from Santa Barbara to San Diego. Wouldn't that be the most econimical for you? I think the Amtrak from Palmdale also requires you get on a bus or get a ride to downtown LA to catch the actual Amtrak train that heds for San Diego, unless you pay a lot extra to use the MetroRail from Palmdale...Check the Amtrak website for the info you need.....Good Luck!
