Median House price?

Hmm…Modesto has lots of housing and is getting more and more city like every year. Some parts are very Suburban, houses parks, schools the hole scene..some parts are rich big houses, some are low-class high crime and others are just restrants and shops very urban(dowtown of course!)
The thing about Modesto is it has a sister-city that once you cross the highway/railroad tracks your in Salida. They are pretty much 1 city and so when you get a little bit of both. Salida definatly has more Hispanic Families…you’ll find ALOT!Salida used to be all the Crime “kicked” out of Modesto but now thats where houses and schools are begin built and it’s getting nicer and nicer. Although Modesto has most of the resturants and shops.
Crime isn’t that bad. You dont here to much about mmurders(of course there is the infamous Laci Peterson but thats one of the only things Ive heard about) Very few if any kidnappings. While there are probably more Sexaul assaults and rapes than Im awar of no1 takes it in distinct threat and so it cannot be that bad. Whe you here about the crime in Modesto its mostly about the Car Jackings. Which In the Suberbs are not too often. Ive never seen or heard of a car being stolen but the internet says they are so…I guess..
House Prices are always rising and decreasing but as I said before it depends on the type of neighborhood. For the most part prices arent exactly cheaped but compared to SF and LA its reasonable.
It definatly isnt a “PARTY” city but it has its nights. There are some local clubs downtown..nothing too special but enough to get the party started. If your under 18 or under 21 modesto definalty isnt as fun. You have..2 movie thearters(+ 1 in riverbank thats like 10 minutes away..the same ammount of time that takes me to get downtown..)1 mall(2 1/2 story’s nothing too special but hey @ least we have a mall..) 2 “Local theme parks” funworks and boomers(which is just like funworks only cheaper and smaller but if youve got 2 hourse to spare riding the go-carts 5-6 times isnt the worst you could do. Most people here just hang out in there neighborhoods(Im 16 and so yea..)or @ school or @ the places Ive sadi but if your older and looking for some “entertainment” There are some museums and libaries downtown that are okay..but Im a kid so thats not really what I do alot of the time. Downtown is definatly my favorite part of Modesto. Park your car and walk all over. What I like is on one corner you’ll have a church and two corners down a night-club. Most of the ethnic resturants and Botique shops are downtown and after about 5 its fun to go down there and either window show or grab a bite.
People say Modesto is more of a commuter town, meaning most people who live here work in Livermore, fresno, merced, SF, LA etc. etc. While there are jobs here it is probably easier finding a job in a nerby city like merced. Most of the jobs available or looking for Bi-lingal since more and more california is beign Spanish-ied.lol Both my parents growing up always worked out of town but thats job becausejobs payed better in say ..merced lol.
So overall Modesto is..Okay. I definatly dont want to live here when I grow up and beign a teen here is pretty boring because nothign really happens..the whole Laci peterson thing was so weird that somethign happened in Modesto..even something that sad and horrible. I cna see why though parents whould like to raise kids in Modesto, it has pretty good school(I guess…) , nice but affortable housing, and it’s close enough to the beach, SF, Sacramento that you can go for a day or weekend and have fun, but its far enough away you dont really get that “living in a city” vibe.
B4 deciding tho I would definatly come for a weeked or soemthign and see how you like it. Its a very hard place to describe because certain times you hate it..and certian times you like it..You never really LOVE IT as you would say SF or LA where there is so much to love or hate.
Modesto is the county seat of Stanislaus County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 188,856. Current census estimates place the population at 206,300. One and a half hours from Sacramento, California’s capital city, and 2 hours from both San Jose and San Francisco, Modesto’s location has turned the agriculturally based city into a bedroom community. Over twenty percent of the workforce travels outside of the county to their place of employment. The area is plagued by some of the worst air quality in the nation, on occasion surpassing even that of Los Angeles. It is also reported to have the highest car theft per capita rate in the United States for at least 2 years running.
Geography
Modesto is located at 37°39’41″ North, 120°59’40″ West (37.661479, -120.994543)1. Modesto is located on the Tuolumne River and is bordered by the Stanislaus and San Joaquin rivers.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 93.1 km² (36.0 mi²). 92.7 km² (35.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.47% water.
Modesto’s international character can also be seen in its five officially recognized sister cities. They are Kurume, Japan; Vernon, Canada; Vijayawada, India; Aquascalientes, Mexico; and Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine.
History
Modesto, originally a stop on the railroad connecting Sacramento to Los Angeles, was founded in 1870 and was to be named for William Chapman Ralston, its founder and the financier of many projects in early California. However, he declined the suggestion and a Spanish-speaking railroad worker at the naming ceremony said that Ralston was “Muy modesto” or very modest. Instead, the town was named Modesto.
Modesto’s official slogan is “Water Wealth Contentment Health,” which is emblazoned on a large arch uptown that has been immortalized in many photographs. A contest was run in 1911 to determine the slogan. The original winning slogan was: “Nobody’s got Modesto’s goat”. The second place entry was the final winner. http://www.answers.com/modesto
I personally would never move there. The whole area, Stockton, Manteca, Ripon, etc. are really dirty places and I don’t know how much the state invests in the city. One thing going for it is the commuters who are moving there from the Bay Area to try and escape the house prices. In a few years it might improve as they bring more cash in to the area. It’s in a great location to drive anywhere in the state in a reasonable time, and you can always find something to do within an hours drive. I think that job growth is pretty good with all the new construction going on, and if you like to drive you can commute to Stockton, Sacramento, or even the Bay Area. The median house price seems quite low for California at around $350,000. I’d suggest looking in Sacramento area. There is a lot more to do, the housing is a little more, and there are loads of jobs there. It’s also a little cleaner and the people are more diverse. As far as crime is concerned I’d call a few of the police stations in the area and talk to them. They would give you an honest answer and tell you what areas are safe or not. Hope this helps a little bit. I’ve been to Houston and it’s really nice, and has loads to do. The gas prices are also alot less in TX then CA. $2.29 – $2.70 a gallon versus $2.79-$3.20.
Nice small town atmosphere.
Yes, there are Hispanics. I don’t know about work opportunities, but you could check that out online, though

What I love most about it, is
that it’s not far from Yosemite, National Park.
It’s also about a six hour drive from L.A. Check with
Realtors on median home
prices. City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce are
good resources for information. The City could perhaps have jobs available.

Lots of luck.
NICE QUIET
Historically, Modesto was a sleepy farmiing town in the Central Valley. It is hot and it was rural, but not anymore. People commute into the major population center of the San Francisco Bay Area to get to get to their jobs, because housing is cheaper.Home prices are probably in the low to mid $600,000 range. What used to be a town of 5-10 thousand is now a city of over 100,000 people. There is a large latino population from the days of farming, but the migration has been White middle class, professional families. The two population centers locally are likely Fresno and Stockton, and a two hour drive to Sacramento. When the population changes so dramatically, movies and other “necessities,” will develop. You won’t see Luciano Pavarotti stop there, but Latin singers like Luis Miguel will probably find an audience for his music. There is a new University of California at Merced, so jobs will continue to be plentiful because it just opened and the infrastructure for staffing will continue to need staff. The likelyhood is that there are latino gangs representing Nortenos and Surenos, but their interests are against each other.
