On September 22, 2008 I traveled down the Musical road in Lancaster, California. When traveling at 55 MPH the grooves in the road play the song william tell overture. I shot video from the cab of the truck then I shot video on the side of the road.

If you check out the youtube account called “HondaMusicalRoad” you can see the step by step process that they went through to make the road. It is quite amazing.

Yes. The old one sounded a little better. You may have to go a little faster on the new one. Try about 60 mph instead of 50-55.

Yea I heard the same thing. To bad it was paved over because it was a heck of a tourest attraction. I am suprised other towns have not come up with this idea, like as you come into town some song plays on the road. Good thing I got shots of this before it was paved over.
Sad! Last I heard…this road DID get paved over about 3 weeks ago.
Rumor has it they will repave ‘the musical road’ to be heard elsewhere. THAT’S just a rumor however.
I wonder how it sounds when busses/BIG Trucks go over it.
Tourists will surely miss it…when it gets paved over. Sigh.
Yep, this is a one of a kind road. Supposidly the road got paved over in the days after I shot this vid due to the fact that people living in the area were complaining about noise.

Nice. This was the first and only time that I had gone down the road.
I’ve been on that road a few times. Last time I went to Palmdale, which was about 5 months ago, I was on it.
It should stay but at least if they are willing to move it some where else it will not be gone forever. If you go to the Antelope Valley press web site they have a whole article about it includeing the repaveing and all.
I don’t think it should be repaved. However they said that they are willing to have it moved to a more remote part of the city.
