Palmdale, Lancaster… anything to do???

My wife and I are considering a move to the Palmdale/Lancaster area, and more specifically Rosamond, so we can live closer to family. Please answer if you live in Antelope Valley…
If you find it to be a boring place, as many apparently do, please explain why. We don’t care for big nightclubs and lots of social events. We can always drive to the beach, Magic Mountain, Dodger Stadium, etc. if we feel like doing something fun.
We want to know what typical life is like in AV. Are people friendly? Are they happy, too? Is the city clean and safe? How much crime and graffiti is there? How good are the schools (K-12)? Would it be a good place to raise small children? What kinds of activities are there for families? How stressful is it living there? Is there anything in particular you would like to say about the area? What do you like about living in AV, and what do you not like?
