Since you are in a hot summer area, it would be best if you
found out where the water was coming from and how much it costs. I don’t think you have
creeks or streams or wells up
there. You probably only have access to city water which is chlorinated and probably flourinated.
You need to contact your
County Extension Service and find out just what will
grow best there and use the
least amount of water.
You may be best just getting
some drought tolerant ground
cover and letting it go at that. I DO KNOW that there
are many fields of wild poppies up there, but that’s
only before it heats up.
Do you call it High Desert?
Its a good place for peaches and apples. Used to be orchards out there.
Trees and plants in that area need to be drought tolerant, unless you like irrigating nearly daily.
And they need to be able to weather snap frosts.
Your question is so broad and .. Just what is it you want the plants to do? There are sites that can help with that.
Try the SelecTree for getting an idea.
First find the zone. I think its 8, maybe 9. Maybe 7 in some years. And look at the Sunset Zones.
The problem out there is usually the HEAT! You need plant with good heat tolerance. See about things that do well in Arizona and New Mexico.
