Just get on the 14 freeway, join the 5 south, take it to the 10 west, and continue until you cannot go any more. You will be at the beach at Santa Monica! Happy swimming!
CG is right, Santa Monica is the closest. However, you will save quite a bit of time by taking the 14 south to the 5 south, BUT taking the 405 south at the split. Then go west on the 10. This will save you about 15 miles.
